Sam Saxophone

This is an old acrylic painting, done while I was at University, and now hanging over a friend’s mantelpiece. This photo of it is old and a bit lacking, but you get the idea. It’s a good size, maybe 2’x3′, and my Dad made a simple wide wooden frame to hold the canvas.

Someone had given me some old 30s jazz photos, and this fellow really caught my eye. I love a sepia palette and was really happy with how the saxophone turned out–shiny things can be hard. I never was happy with the smoke but I was too lazy to redo it!

I can’t remember this musician’s surname, but I know that his first name was Sam. I wonder what life brought him. Did he have joy, a long life, a short life? If anyone knows his full name, I will find out.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
